Twimii and her co-workers are trundling into a meeting room. A man, Tom, is standing at the top of the room, in front of a projector. The screen behind him says TRUSTUS PENSION PLANS. He smiles at the people entering the room. Maria and some other teamleader/supervisor are sitting against the wall at the side. Tom: Everyone here? Good. OK. So I’m here today to talk to you about TRUSTUS Pension Plans and the different options available. I will be available for individual appointments if you want to discuss your particular circumstances. Today I really just want to outline the basics options and to impress on you the importance of having the right pension plan. So what I want you to do now is take a minute to think about where you will be in 30 years time. Really think about it. I know - I know it’s a long way off. But those years are going to go faster than you think so allow yourself a moment to think about it - and dream - dream about the possibilities for life in retirement. The crowd stare at him bored, except for Twimii who really is imagining the world in 30 years time. The man hands some paper and pens to the crowd. Tom: I want to write a letter to your 60 year old self. Keith: Retirement age is 68. Tom: Well, you could retire early. We’ll get into that later. Co-worker: They’ll have us working till the grave. The man laughs but the worker stares daggers at him. Man: O - K. So what wise words would the 60 - or 70 if you prefer - old you have to have for you now? Worker: Next Wednesday’s winning lottery numbers are The whole crowd laughs except Twimii who is still gripped by her dreams of the future and writing away furiously. Tom: Very good. Very good. OK take 5 minutes now. 5 minutes later… Someone has made a paper airplane and it’s flying through the air. Most people are just chatting. Twimii is reading what’s she’s written to see if she’s included all the things she wanted to. Tom: OK? Everybody ready? The man looks at Twimii, pleased he has at least one person who is going to have some response for him. Tom: Well, I can see one woman who knows where she wants to be. Twimii looks around and then smiles at him. Twimii: Me? Man: Yes. Would you like to share your letter with us? Twimii: OK. She stands up on her chair. Pete puts his hand over his face. Most people are just amused. The man looks at Twimii surprised and to Maria, who just shrugs resignedly. She probably advised him to skip the letter exercise. Twimii: Dear Twimii. My world is very different from the one you inhabit now… We see a 60 - 70 year old Twimii standing on some sort of mound - it could be a rubbish pile - it’s not clear. She looked very weathered. Twimii: In the past 30 - 40 years our world has been battered by wars, devastating natural disasters and the breakdown of the international finance systems Face of man looking completely shocked. Twimii: But Twimii this is a message of hope I bring you. Though in many ways life is much harder now and our world is very scarred by what has happened, there is no more war, people do not die of preventable or treatable diseases, knowledge is shared and fully accessible to all, life is respected and nurtured - in all its forms. The fight now is not against each other, it is a fight for protecting and cultivating all humanity and what life is left on our beautiful scarred world. We now see Twimii standing on a pile of rubble among some ruins. There are people working on restoration works around her and dog wagging its tail looking up at her. Twimii: Our fight, our work is now about making this world better for all. Keith: Hell to the yeah!! Dionne turns back to Keith. Dionne: Lay off the energy drinks Keith. Twimii sits back down in her seat. Pete: I want a house on Lake Garda and two holidays a year - one long-haul. Man: Ah… Woman who is sitting beside Maria stands up and says “OK so we’ll be handing out copies of the presentation. And anyone who wants a personal consultation with Tom message me.” Maria puts her arm around Tom leading him away. Maria: Don’t worry about it. Happens all the time. Let’s get you a pastry and coffee.
