Peace requires a lot of work and support

I’m relieved that a ceasefire has finally been agreed between Israel and Hamas. I’m beyond sick at what our world has allowed happen over the past … This goes back decades. But what we have witnessed with our own eyes for the past 15 months has been particularly heinous.

A long-term lasting solution is needed for the good of everyone. I’m very worried about what is going to happen. I believe that Palestinians deserve to have their territory, Gaza, the West Bank and East Jerusalem, to be recognised as their sovereign state, that they control and manage themselves. I know it’s much more complicated than that. But currently Palestinians are living under a repressive apartheid system that refuses to let them fully manage their own affairs.

The whole world is responsible for allowing this oppression to develop and continue. It must stop. We must recognise the injustice of this situation for Palestinians. It must stop.

I want any Israeli reading this to know that I support the existence of Israel and I’m sorry for the pain you have endured. But I cannot support or condone Israel’s treatment of Palestinians. I hope you will feel the same, if you don’t already.

i wasn’t going to write anything about this. Didn’t feel up to the task. But then I watched this video, Rafeef Ziadah – ‘We teach life, sir’, London, 12.11.11, and thought, we’ve got to let Palestinians know, we know this isn’t over until there is a just solution for Palestinians.
