Foggy Days - not sure what this is about
I made an image of twimii and the gang sitting in a kitchen back in 2016 or 2017 with the intention of using it as a header. But there was something quite off about the image. AI wasn’t an option then and I found it impossible to make a photo-realistic image of twimii. Also there was just something odd about it, beyond how Twimii looked.
Something about it reminded me of some 1950s or 1970s horror movies. You know the type where things look superficially ok but beneath the surface something not at all normal is going on. And for some reason it’s not possible to directly confront anyone who will admit what is actually going on.
I got ideas for two different horror movies from that image. One was very loosely inspired by Night of the Demon. I did outline that one. But that story involved technology that allowed wireless control of a brain. And I got worried that it might be seen as a criticism of neural implant technology - which it isn’t at all. So I decided to go with the other idea - Foggy Days.
I never outlined Foggy Days. I just started writing it. And I had only written about 10 minutes of it when I decided to post it. I was posting something every day in November 2018, and because I had 10 minutes of this that is what I posted. This is actually why I posted The Grass Snake of the House as well.
Was I doing nanowrimo? I hadn’t heard of nanowrimo before doing this. I just happened to decide to post something every day for that month. It was a very enjoyable experience. But I did post a lot of stuff that was quite rushed and not that good.
Foggy Days was one of the more interesting things I posted. So I kept going back to it and I would post another 10 minutes every few months. Then I wrote about another hour of it during a shutdown back in 2020 or 2021. I was going to finish it before posting any more of it. And the device I had it on ate it. When I opened the file it just gave me a blank page. So I dropped the idea.
It wasn’t even finished at that stage. And to be honest the story hadn’t advanced much either. So maybe it was all for the best.
Why am I posting it now? Well, I found that hour last year on a different device.
So did I finish the story when I found that missing hour? No. Did I at least fix the pacing issues? Again, no.
So why am I posting a bit more of an unfinished Foggy Days? That is a good question. Maybe it might make me finish the thing? Maybe? Maybe you might like to read it even though it may never be finished? Maybe? I totally understand if you don’t. I wouldn’t, in fairness.
If I do ever finish it, I will change the Reading Time at the top of this page to reflect this.
I will be adding a scene or two of that missing hour every week until it’s all posted. And if I do write more of it in the meantime I’ll post that too.
Can I at least say what the plot is about? Um … no. I’m not sure what it’ about. But it oddly does reflect how I feel. Kind of. It’s a bit foggy.
